FETSUMs style of music is influenced by soul, reggae, Mande Music of Mali, folk, rock and hip hop - forced to summarize his sound, he grudgingly describes it as “Urban Folk”. Distinguished by a warm, acoustic, analogue sound, full of light and shade, imbued with FETSUM’s own unique mixture of melancholy and hope. FETSUM received significant international attention with his debut album released in 2012. His debut album’s most obvious influences include the likes of Otis Redding, Donny Hathaway, Bob Marley and Tracy Chapman, but it’s notable that FETSUM also acknowledges a whole slew of other artists and is as likely to praise Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, even early U2 as much as Salif Keita, Fela Kuti and Ali FarkaTouré. FETSUM enthused fans in more than 350 live concerts and KCRW 89,9 applauded him: "I WAS REALLY TAKEN BY IT. IT'S WORLDLY COLLECTION OF SOUNDS, AND HIS WARM, MAGNETIC VOCALS DREW ME IN…" while NPR Radio concluded „…FETSUM. KILLER BAND.
